My Man really loves any type of granolas, but unfortunately, most of the brands of cereals and granolas are loaded with sugar, artificial colours and other unhealthy ingredients.
If you choose not to poison yourself and your family, make your own version of granola at home. This recipe won’t take more than 10 minutes to make healthy, crunchy and delicious treats for the whole family, which is perfect on the busy mornings or when you are just craving for something sweet.
- 200g porridge oats
- 120g your choice of mixed, unsalted nuts (peanuts, hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds, pecans, cashews, pistachios etc.)
- 100g coconut oil
- 100g runny honey
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 pinch of salt
- 50g good quality dark chocolate (chopped up into small pieces)
Preheat the oven to gas mark 4, 180 C, and line a big baking tray with a layer of baking parchment.
Chop your nuts up, if you want or leave them in big chunky pieces.
In a big bowl mix the oats, nuts, cinnamon and a pinch of salt together. Melt the coconut oil and honey together in the microwave, and add it to your dry mixture.
Make a single layer of granola on your tray and bake for 10 minutes. Stir it up, and bake for 10 more minutes or so, until it’s gorgeously golden brown.
Leave it to cool completely, and add the chocolate pieces to your tasty homemade granola.
(Keep it interesting and add one of your other favourite goods every time, e.g. coconut flakes, dried fruits, milk or white chocolate chips, a big pinch of coarse sea salt etc.)
You can keep it in airtight containers for up to 1 month, but if your family is just a little bit like mine, it will disappear much sooner.
